Here are the 5 deadliest eruptions in history. Mount Pelee (1902) Caribbean, Death rate: 30,000 deaths, less than a minute after the eruption, a heated gas cloud of 3000°F descended on Port St. Pierre. The gas heated a nearby lake to boiling temperatures. There was no escape. It was considered the worst Volcanic disaster of the 20th century.

A cloud of gas and debris rose 15 miles into the atmosphere. The debris  circled the globe, blocking out the Sun. Global temperature dropped by an average 2.1°F. The temperature returned to normal after 5 years.
Mount Tambora (1815) Indonesia, Death rate 90,000 deaths, the Volcanic literally blew its top off. The eruption was 10X more powerful than krakatoa. Gas and debris clouds rose 25 miles into the atmosphere. It was causing crazy weather worldwide, like snow in June. This disrupted growing seasons, causing famine. 1816 is often known as "the year without a summer."
